Does Social Media Take Over Your Life?

“She also observes that most students are using their cell phones for taking pictures, texting, or sharing a screen image with a friend; in contrast, most of the adults in attendance are more fixated on their screens and less social with others around them(2).”

“She contends that although the social media platforms may vary and change, the reasons that teens use social media stay constant, such as independence (21), friendship (18), and identity (17) and social media help to fulfill their need to interact publicly (8).”

“Many adults I meet assume that their own childhoods were better and richer, simpler and safer, than the digitally mediated ones contemporary youth experience…The research I present here suggests that the opposite is often true” (16).

These were the three main quotes of the summary I feel, epically the third one here. I really feel like that quote is what completes her point of view because it is often our parents that get upset with social media.

Self Reflection

Overall I hated doing this, It was a nice time to just relax and decompress but I was so stressed I think it made it worse. I did this in my house down in my basement turned all the electronics off and just sat on the couch. Although having no worry of social media was a new feeling because it has become such a big part of everyones lives.

Connected, But Alone?

Sherry Turkle made her TED talk I feel to address the major issues with technology today. People don’t know how to talk to each other, instead they stare at their phones and are unfocused. Kids in class don’t listen, they’re too busy shopping or on facebook, and it is the same with adults at conferences. She even used her own daughter as an example and showing just how truly addicted we are to our phones.

Reflective Analysis Podcast

Reflection on Podcast: This was one of the more difficult projects I have done here at UNE. Probably because I have never had any practice with making podcasts. Honestly I am not a big fan of the results, I hated the time restriction. I felt like I had a lot more detail and information that could truly help make it better.

Revision Reflection 1

Overall I liked the new way that I revised my paper. Instead of just looking at the basic surface level stuff like grammar or spelling I reorganized and changed the entire thing. I wouldn’t say that I am 100 percent satisfied with writing my new paper because this was the first time I have written a paper like this. Hoping that if I can keep working on it I will be a lot better on the next one.

As far as Blooms Taxonomy goes I believe that I went all the way to the creating step but never completed it. The main focus on my paper was actually analyzing the texts we read and how they connected back to me. Besides that I was also evaluating the two pieces of information on what opinion I most related to and actually applied to real world scenarios. Although I did not have these two key steps in my paper until the final draft, my base writing was strictly applying, understanding, and remembering.

Critique Reflection #1

I liked this process of self reviewing and peer review because it actually had a structure to follow. Personally, it made me have to critique my partners work a lot more too. The only difference I really noticed was having to follow a certain guide for the review, instead of just normally putting basic grammatical errors and “oh great job” into the comment section.
